Review
I first found out about this movie, as pathetic as it sounds, watching the movie Twister. I thought it was going to be
some big time mind fuck. So I decided to blindly buy this movie and I'm glad to say that, I made one hell of a purchase. This
is one of the greatest accomplishments in film history. Stanley Kubrick is a God among mortals. He is able to show such kindness
in a single person then take that away and turn them into a raving lunatic.
Gore
This probably has the most blood in a single movie. I say that because we see a huge river of blood pouring out of an
elevator, though it doesn't look anything more than red water. There's also a very cool axing, where the poor cook gets it.
Nudity
There's one scene where we get a seemingly beautiful women, getting out of a bathtub, naked. She walks to Jack and begins
to kiss him, she then suddenly turns into a naked old woman and everything goes south from there (get the wood joke).
Memorable Scene
My favorite scene would have to be when Jack speaks with the Bartender. Some interesting dialogue occurs which always
just puts a smile on my face. I love how Jack acts so cool, but also a little drunk.
Characters
This cast is fucking incredible. Jack Nicholson is insane and really intriguing in the part of Jack Torrence. Shelley
Duvall does what she's supposed to with the role of the wife. She is my least favorite character mainly because she does nothing
but bitch about things the entire time and that's no fun. Danny is great as the child. I learned that to get a great performance
out of him, they didn't tell him it was a horror film and they would always have someone with the kid so that he didn't get
nervous and remembered his lines.
Overall
Tremendous film that really shows the dark side of a human being. Kubrick is a mastermind and no one could have done a
better job with this film than him.
