Review
Many of my friends had told me that this was one of their favorite horror movies of all time,
so I bought it blindly. I will admit that I was disappointed with this film, but still found this movie entertaining. Sometimes
the acting is a little off and there is a hint of cheesiness in places but it is very real. Most of the movie is very serious
and dark. One thing that this movie really has going for it is the atmosphere. It is very creepy and the death scenes, at
times, are suspenseful.
Character
Surprisingly the characters
in this movie were very entertaining. I was expecting the people were there only to die and boy was I wrong. I actually cared
for these characters. The lead Devon Sawa (Alex) did a great job and definitely proves that he can act. I figured he would
be annoying like he is in all his movies but I was wrong yet again. Another surprise was young Ali Larter (Clear) who is always
the hottie that everyone wants to bang (Varsity Blues anyone?) but here it was different. Yes she was a beauty like always
but she also had this different quality that made me really want her to live looks aside. She was the outsider and not the
big Cheerleader who everyone likes. Ali does have her moments of just plain bad acting but for the most part she holds her
own.
The other characters in this movie were not so like-able, though I did really like Seann William
Scott in the beginning but near the end I was hoping he would lose his head (wink wink). Kerr Smith (Carter) was really annoying
and was just a huge prep. Yes there are three other big characters but none were very good (two students and the teacher)
Gore
This movie did have some
gory bits but nothing over the top. We get to see a very cool plane crash though. In that we see burnt flesh and a huge glob
of blood. The kills weren’t too creative but that’s ok because they really looked cool. We get to see somebody
hit by a bus, a decapitation, a brutal stab, and a very cool hanging.
Nudity
None but we can all forgive
them for that…can’t we?
Killer
In a creative look upon
the horror genre the killer in this film is not an axe wielding psycho path or a flesh eating monster but a pure force. This
force is a little thing that we like to call death. No grim reaper here, which is a good thing because then this would be
a total cheese fest.
Overall
This movie did disappoint
me but hey what movie doesn’t in some way? The story was top notch, the acting slightly above average (for the most
part), cool kills and Ali Larter. That’s enough for me
8.5/10
