Yeah...I guess we can't win them all. I traveled 60 miles in order to see this movie because I enjoyed the first one and heard
that this was better. Plus I had to go to a birthday party there anyway so why not stop by a movie? Well I really wish that
I had seen 28 Weeks Later instead. This film was just one big disappointment.
Going into it I knew Roth was going to explore the inner workings of "the company" and I thought that would
be a good idea. But Roth definitely failed to execute. The scenes that did show stuff behind the scenes just had me laughing
(Instead of calling you on your cellphone or giving you something that would make sense here's a little restaurant thing that
will buzz when it's your turn). I mean honestly, what the hell?
And what was with the factory COMPLETELY changing in such a small span of time. I mean they have theme rooms now, completely
reinforced doors which have combination locks on them, camera's looking on each room, and even costumes for the victims. I
mean what the hell? I remember Josh being in nothing but his undies and Paxton in his normal clothes. It just suddenly changes?
Another thing was what was with the fucking plot holes. I mean in the first one, this whole organization seems to be extremely
underground and secret but now it's like ANYONE can be apart of it. Not only that, but also the rules seem to have changed
because I remember in the first that the killer didn't have a million rules to follow. They were to just kill and that was
that. No in this they suddenly come in on private jets into a huge fortress with tons of guards outside and HAVE to get tattoo
and such. What bullshit. Note to Roth: Don't make up new rules that aren't followed in the first one.
And how dare Roth kill off Paxton. He was great in the first one and not only did he kill him but he killed him in a pussy
way. I mean offscreen decapitation while he's eating cereal. What a waste of a good character. And I still don't know what
to think about the whole "secret lair" in the business man's house with all the heads. I mean I understand that
they're all the people that escaped but I mean, if twenty people escape from the place, it seems like they would have fortified
it long before Paxton was there.
Onto the characters. The three girls are not very likable at all. Hell, I didn't even know what Lorna and Whitney's names
were until I looked it up to write this review because I didn't care. They weren't likable and worth my time. When they eventually
bit it I was just like "Oh okay, who was that again?" Now Beth on the other hand is very likable and someone who
I was rooting for. She's intelligent and pretty. What's not to like. I like what Roth did with her character and was glad
that he didn't screw it up with her. Heather and Bijou need to stay away from acting. Well, I guess I shouldn't say that about
Bijou since I have seen her in other things and she is a good actress so fine: Note to Bijou - Don't act in another Eli Roth
film. Lauren did a fine job with what she was given which isn't saying a hell of a lot.
Onto the two clients. Let me just say that I called the little "Personality reversal" in the first twenty minutes.
And it did NOT make sense at all. I mean I can kind of understand Stuart going psycho because he seemed like the type but
suddenly Todd being compassionate? What the hell? He's given off such a psychotic image and enjoyment out of the whole thing
then suddenly he pusses out. Not likely. And another thing about him being killed off. I mean why would they kill him when
Whitney is OBVIOUSLY going to die. She got a saw to the face. It's not like he's leaving her unscathed, he's leaving her to
die, just like Beth did in the end. But whatever on that. That's just bad writing.
Now the gore. What a disappointment. I thought Roth said that we would be disgusted by this. I wasn't disgusted. I wasn't
even a little unnerved. I thought that there was barely any gore. The blood bath was interesting but it came off as more comical
that disturbing. Too much blood so it was very hard to take it seriously. The infamous castration scene wasn't bad at all.
It didn't look real at all so I didn't really care. The one kill that i did really enjoy was everything with Whitney. The
saw to the face was amazing to see. Reminded me a lot of the nail gun death from FD3. I also loved the shot from the camera
where Stuart is going to decapitate her and the fat guy gets in the way of the camera. Great shot. And the cannibal guy eating
the foreign guys legs. That was just stupid and completely out of nowhere.
Onto the ending. How can the commercials proclaim that this is the most shocking ending in a horror movie? I called it
during the first fifteen minutes. I knew she'd buy her way out right when Whitney tells Lorna that Beth inherited all of her
mothers money and that she could buy "anything". Right then I knew she would buy her way out of it. Not even a real
surprise though I did like that Beth was suddenly a badass. That was cool. No Rambo bullshit this time around.
Well that's pretty much all I have to say about this mediocre movie. It pretty much ruins everything from the first and
then some. If I were you, I'd wait for the dvd release.
