landofthedead2.jpg

written and directed by GEORGE A. ROMERO

posterlandofthedead.jpg

Summary
In this new tale, Romero creates a harrowing vision of a modern-day world where the walking dead roam an uninhabited wasteland and the living try to lead "normal" lives behind the walls of a fortified city. A new society has been built by a handful of enterprising, ruthless opportunists, who live in the towers of a skyscraper, high above the hard-scrabble existence on the streets below. But outside the city walls, an army of the dead is evolving. Inside, anarchy is on the rise. With the very survival of the city at stake, a group of hardened mercenaries is called into action to protect the living from an army of the dead.

Review
I don't really care if everyone I know wants to kill me after I put this but I don't care. I loved Land of the Dead. It was just a straight up zombie movie. It had the best gore I've seen in an Rated film in a long time. It also had the very hot Asia Argento.

The story sounded pretty dumb when I'd first read about this film. Then I saw the pics from it. I still wasn't too intrigued. Then i started hearing some stuff about it and it started to sound pretty cool. Then the trailer came out. I was amazed. It looked very promising and looked like it could make some money for Romero. I watched this and wanted to see it right then and there. Then came that one fateful day that I saw it. I was blown away.

This film had it all. It had gore, hotties, zombies and the super cool John Leguizamo (spelled wrong). I wasn't expecting this to be as good as it actually was. I was expecting another Dawn of the Dead remake, meaning that it would be a huge letdown.

Gore
This movie did not lay off the gore at all. Some may say that it was not enough and I say thats complete bull. The MPAA don't let any movie get away with crap. This had heads exploding, intestine munching, bloody wounds and bloody gunshots wounds. It astounded me how much Romero was able to get onscreen.

Nudity
This also had little nudity that wasn't a good thing or a bad thing. Some ladies kissing (before gettin munched on). Plus this had Asia Argento with no shirt. Yeah she had a bra but who cares, ITS ASIA ARGENTO. There was some boob shots in a stripclub-like place. Nothing over the top though.

Killer

The zombies were the best I've seen in a zombie film. They weren't the gay blue and gray zombies (I respect them I'm just saying they aren't up to date) This had zombies with some gruesome wounds. Cheek's torn off, limbs missing and decaying flesh. The flesh was decaying on almost every zombie. Some were nothing but skin and bones which was very cool. All in all the zombies looked better than they ever have before.

Characters
Some people say John Leguizamo can't act but to those who say that, screw you. He does a fine job in this film and gets the part just right. He has that super cool vibe even when he's being a bad guy. Its awesome.

The other characters were likeable which wasn't surprising. Romero has a great way of showing character development. He makes you really feel for the characters. In this movie I didn't find myself really feeling for the characters as much as I hoped I would. Slack (Argento) was uber hot so that made me want her to live. She also had a prescense that lightened up the mood, but just a little bit. Surprisingly the lead, Riley (Baker) did a very good acting job. His care for others and his leadership qualities made me really feel for him. Charlie seemed pretty dumb but its expected. He was however likeable since he seemed to have such a lost dog kind of feel to him. Pillsbury is a loveable fatman. The other characters I either didn't care for or forgot to mention.

Overall
The directors cut will be much better than this film, which i loved. The added gore and character development will help the story along. This will hopefully be released in October so its out by halloween. I'll pick it up and i hope you do too.

This movie is my second favorite of the year (first goes to Batman Begins). It was dark and had plenty of gore. The acting wasn't top notch but the lead actors held their own. This movie was a masterpiece for Romero and I hope others will feel the same.

10/10!!!!!

Simon Baker .... Riley
John Leguizamo .... Cholo
Dennis Hopper .... Kaufman
Asia Argento .... Slack
Robert Joy .... Charlie
Eugene Clark .... Big Daddy
