American Psycho

directed by MARY HARRON

Plot
Good looking yuppie dude, Patrick Bateman has all anyone could want, one sexy girlfriend, an even sexier mistress, money, Harvard education, good taste (No joke here) and lots of friends…what could he be missing? What about a soul, a sense of presence and sanity? He feels his lack of existance is making his mask of sanity to pull off and he cannot control his urges to kill.

Review
After finishing reading and loving the novel, "American Psycho", by Bret Easton Ellis, I wasn't expecting much from the cinematic representation. I was actually thinking that it was going to have this little cliché filmmakers today love to apply: The lets-fuck-the-fans-and-give-them-a-shit-arse movie-based-on-a-book-they-love…But guess what? I was wrong…VERY wrong. The movie is fucking awsome!

The film's brilliancy depends mostly on two basic things: The directress, being as cool as she is, keeping the movie faithful to the always so cool book and another one: Christian "The Man" Bale! His performance just steals our eyes, he IS the movie and I am sure this movie wouldn't be half what it is today if it wasn't for such a cool man.

The directing was astounding, I adored the grizzly dark but dreamy really well fitting atmosphere that lies all around, and there's nothing more brilliant. I can only know that Ellis wouldn't be embarrassed, this chilli really hot!! The good looks, the manerisms, the dialogue and everything is well molded for one hell of a thrill book inspired ride.

All the dialogue, the settings and the damning innuendo in the movie seem like written by Ellis himself! Of course, it remains violent (Thank God not as much as the freaking book!) and we get the sex stuff laid on thick in here (I'm talking about lesbo action, one hot threesome, naked ladies…you'll see what Im talking about). And I think these is the strong point in the movie (excluding Bale). I love when a movie keeps the spirit of the book, and this one keeps it big time.

All the characters are tad developed and likeable (Even the gay dude), all the dialogue remains novellistic and suave. The directing seemed strong and done by a veteran on it! This gal managed his characters only by their looks and I absolutely loved how the characters had TONS of makeup, making them look 'fake', as they are, brilliant.

It's great to see a movie done and written by proffesionals and believe me, this will become a classic and let's hope it doesn't spawn any more sequels because to say the truth, "American Psycho 2: All American Girl" sucked that big weenie.

Gore
The movie does not shy away from gore but steers clear of being as violent as the book is, we see heads in a freezer, a chainsaw attack, random blood and lots of corpses (Some of them seemed to have been icepicked, hung in a hook…the works).

10/10
